What’s Happening in June at the Darwin Bowls and Social Club
The Social Scene:
Friday 3rd June come down and have some fun with Rock ‘n Roll Bowls. Teams will be club selected so you don’t even need a partner. Come along for some swingin’ fun and bowls from 6.00pm. Cost $15.00 and includes a barbecue.
Friday 17th June come along and show off both your bowls and trivia skills with Trivia Bowls. Bowls start around 6.00pm and will be followed by a barbecue and mind twisting trivia. Cost $15.00
Regular social bows are on every Sunday morning and Tuesday morning, Wednesday evening and Thursday evening.
Friday night Happy Hour is from 4.30 to 6.30. Very reasonable bar prices and there’s always lots of fun to be had at the Club on a Friday night including the $150 Members Badge Draw. Meat Voucher Raffles are also held every Friday. The voucher is from the delectable Fannie Bay Butchers so you will certainly not want to miss out on those.

Men’s Club Championship 4’s are underway and will continue to be played on Sunday’s throughout June.
The Ladies Club Championship 4’s will commence on Sunday 19th June at 1.30pm. The nomination sheet is up at the club, so Ladies, get your team together and put your names up.
PS: Just a quick reminder that you have to be a full club member to play in the Club Championship events, so if you’re enjoying your social bowls and want to step it up, why not become a full member and enter some of the Club Championship events. Any of the more “serious” bowlers around the club would be happy to help you out.
The final games of Pennant will be played on the 18th and 25th of June. If you have your name down, make sure you check the notice board to see if you are playing and where.
The Humpty Doo Twilight Carnival starts on the 4th of June. Check out the notice at the Club and enter your team(s) for some fun bowls at the Humpty Doo Bowls Club.
And finally, a request to all our bowling members and guest:
As you will all know, we have been having a lot of problems with our greens and are trying hard to get them back up to a good playing surface. Peter, our greenkeeper, has been working very hard to manage the problems and restore the greens, but he needs all of us to help try to protect the greens when we are bowling. To do this, we ask that anyone who is bowling, whether a novice social bowler or an experienced competition bowler or anywhere in-between, to follow these few rules:
- Wear only flat soled shoes on the green – if you don’t have bowls shoes, cheap thongs are a really good option. Anything with tread on the bottom, like runners, sandals and some thongs, and anything with heels can really damage the grass surface;
- Don’t let children run around on the greens – we want to see children having fun at the club, but they can damage the greens without meaning to;
- When bowling, try not to throw the bowls on the green – this leaves dents and really, your bowl won’t get far down the green if you throw it, it’s much better to roll it;
- Enjoy a drink at the edge of the green, but please don’t take them onto the greens
We hope you have a fun month visiting and bowling at the Darwin Bowls Club
