Good luck to Elisa Rigoni and Daniel Baker as they head to Sorrento, WA to compete in the Australian Singles Champion of Champions.
Daniel Baker and Elisa Rigoni are set to represent Darwin Bowls and Social Club in the Australian Champion of Champions this weekend in WA.
Earlier in 2023, Daniel and Elisa both won their Club Championship Singles event and then competed against all the other NT Club winners to win the overall title of NT Champion of Champion 2023. They will now play against all the other State winners in Perth this weekend in an endeavour to win the coveted title Australian Champion of Champion. NT bowlers are a force to be reckoned with on the National stage in these individual events with Trystan Smallacombe winning the Australian Title in 2020 and Colleen Orr in 2018.
Daniel started playing when he was 15 in Kerang, Victoria while having a break with football injuries. He is now 32 and he has claimed a spot as a Skip with the Northern Territory side over the last couple of years. He played Football for St Marys in the NT and only retired last year.
Elisa is 26 and has been bowling since she was 11 starting in Shepparton, Victoria. Elisa is also a State skip and the Coach for the Open NT Side. Elisa is a Pre School teacher at Little Flyers Childcare Centre.
The Champion of Champions on Friday and Saturday is the Opening event for the Nationals which will run over 2 weeks in Perth. NT has representative players from across the NT Clubs: Nightcliff, Katherine, Darwin and Alice Springs, playing in the Australian Sides, the Over 60s Sides and finally the National Championships.
All of our currents State Skippers: Trystan Smallacombe, Scott Hollingworth, Daniel Baker, Elisa Rigoni, Siobhan Tootell and Colleen Orr have represented the NT in National Singles events with Scott Hollingworth from Nightcliff Bowls Club finishing Runner up last year in the National Singles at Broadbeach.
